For my students with family in areas affected by Hurricane Matthew...
... My heart aches with yours. Most of my family lives in Haiti, specifically, in the Grand'Anse region that was affected the most. This region is rarely depicted in any media. Some of you may have family that are missing or who are now homeless, and I want you to know that there are many faculty and staff members who understand and who are here for you.
Below, I have some videos of the Haiti that is never shown, depicting some of the affected areas of Haiti before the storm. You may also click here for some personal pics of my trip to Haiti last year. Even if you do not understand the language, the pictures should be enough to let you have an amuse bouche of Southwestern, Haiti.
